| After many phone
calls etc, Rendy managed to get 11 players by 11am Sunday morning.
Debutants were Barry and Garry Ings and Lewis Fitzjohn with Clive
Johns playing his first game of the season for us. Sixpenny Handley
had some problems too and could only field 9 players so after winning
the toss and electing to bat Rendy kindly offered the services
of his team to help out in the field.( what a mistake to make
!!!).What looked on paper to be a good batting line up on a friendly
matting wicket was more or less decimated.Clive was first to go for 7
being caught at silly mid on by the oldest player we have played
against, 75 I think!! Lawrence went next after creaming a ball to point
where Graham Corbin who was fielding for Handley took an absolute
stunner of a catch in the horizontal position.( Rendy is reviewing his
gesture of helping the opposition in the feild)The wickets kept
falling with only Matty (26) and Rendy (28) offering any resistance.
Barry Ings who like Graham was fielding for Handley proceeded to catch
his son and Frankie Fitjohn also having a spell in the field ran out
Sean Damen. ( Rendy has now decided that its the last time he helps
the opposition if they are short of players) Our final total of 127
was not really enough!!! After a superb tea we opened the bowling with
Jamie and Newcomer Barry Ings and after 13 overs they were 12 for 5
with Barry returning 3-5 in 7 overs and Jamie 1-1 in 4 overs and Rendy
1-5 in 2 overs. With only requiring to get 8 wickets to win Rendy
brought on another newcomer who is also allot younger than Barry !!!!
Lewis Fitzjohn on to bowl who bowled superbly with figures of 2-7 in 2
overs and with Jonsie running out their last man they finished on 43.
So we saw some excellent bowling from those who turned their arm over.
A big thanks to Frankie and Lewis's dad Andy for umpiring and as
always a big thanks to Teddy Bosisto for being in the scoring hot
seat. Drinkie's afterwards were at Drivers at Gussage ( no not gussett
Clive) were food was provided. A good day was had by all and thanks to
Handleys hospitality. |
