| For a change a
cloudy but warm day greeted us as we arrived at Paultons. I believe
Rendy won the toss and elected to bat. A steady opening partnership of
43 between Nick and Paul H gave what we thought was a good solid start
even though both opening batsmen were guilty of losing their wickets. This
brought together Lawrence and Malc to the crease and another steady
partnership was beginning to form until Lawrence our Vice Captain could
not contain himself any longer and on the final ball of the over after
he had launched himself at the previous 5 to no avail was stumped for 28
with many overs still to go. Malc was the next to go as I gave him out stumped
and apparently the keeper did not have the ball but was not man enough
to call Malc back. Wickets steadily fell from then on with only Jamie
(21) and Graham (11) getting into Double figures that was till the Damen
brothers Steve playing his first game of the season and Sean came to the
crease. They put on a unbeaten stand of 25 in front of a delighted dad
Alan for the 8th Wicket to see us to a final total of 149-8. Demolition
man Jamie was at it again with the ball and in no time had skittled out
their 4 top order batsmen with the score on only 36. A dead cert LBW was
not given and that robbed him the chance of a five wicket haul and
eventually robbed us the chance of victory as their batsmen went on to
score 87 no with some awesome bludgeoning of the ball to all parts of
the ground and victory in the 28th over. The highlight of the day was
later back in the White horse when some old geezer dressed in full
racing attire fell into his sporty Viper Dodge racing car and promptly
stalled it right in front of us in the car park. Something he will not
forget in a long while.
Dont forget the Tour is only a month away so
if your coming let Rendy know, if you have not already. |
