At last ! After having 5 out of our first 6
games cancelled due mainly to bad weather we have a hot sunny Sunday
afternoon, and rendy lost the toss. In the field we were ! 40 over's a
side and no draws this time. Langley Manor decided to come out all guns
blazing and after two over's had 24 runs on the board, 19 from Gingsy's
first over ! 3 quick wickets went down but they just kept blazing away.
" Large " Fitzjohn then slowed the pace down a little but it all
started to happen when Lewis Fitzjohn entered the frey. 8-0-34-5 were his
figures and a total of 205 was a lot better than the 250+ it looked like
at one stage.Well done Lewis. Sean D had two good catches but also dropped
two, very unlike him. Widow Twanky mark 2 ( Matt Hollier) had a couple of
victims behind the stumps ( come back Malcolm ), then when opening decided
to run out Geoff in the second over,( 0-1). In came Clive and for those
watching it was an absolute pleasure to observe superb strokeplay, not one
chance given in a brilliant 90. Just before Clive was out the heavens
opened up and made conditions a bit more difficult. 'After Clive was out a
flurry of wickets followed, all this whilst Andy Fitzjohn watched on from
the non strikers end. With the score on 171-7things started to look
ominous, but in strode Graham Corbin. Along with Andy's superbly timed
ground shots (especially the one through the covers), Graham stared with a
square 6 a la Viv Richards then helped Andy get the rest of the runs
required for a great win. Great game, lovely ground, wonderful tea on a
hot sunny day, oh and i nearly forgot a nice cold lager. All agreed it was
a highly enjoyable day. Thanks to Dave Sandham for umpiring and to Harry
and Ted for scoring
