Demon Damen
Feilding
Well season 2006 finally
got under way at the fourth attempt with a game against Hythe &
Dibden. Pilgrims batted first and got off to a good solid start with Nick
and Matty putting on 77 for the first wicket. Matty(42) was first to
go. Paul H(6) followed shortly with the score on 103, soon followed by
Nick (42) shortly after the drinks break. This left us at 111-3. Good
partnership's between Lawrence (19) and Geoff(19no), Geoff and Rendy(21)
and Geoff and Steve Damen(10) saw us to 189-6 with 3 overs left. In came
the young Dave Sandham to partner Geoff and between them put on a very
valuable 21 runs before our innings closed at 210-9 which included a text
book cover drive for four by Dave. It was Hythe's turn to bat after tea
and after the first 6 overs were on 45-0. Paul H came on to bowl for a
very tired Rendy, but it was Lawrence who got first blood with a catch
taken by Dave S at gully. This brought to the crease Hythe's young over sea's
player who got stuck into our bowling right from the start and was
steering them towards victory. But the two Damen boy's Shaun and Steve had
other ideas. Shaun took 2 catches one of which was amazing, running
backwards and side ways to a ball hit at pace and never really getting
much more than 2 feet of the ground Shaun managed somehow to catch the
ball two handed from virtually of the ground between his feet, you
had to be there to have seen it. Meanwhile not wanting to out done by his
younger brother Steve turned in an amazing display of fielding whilst also
bagging a catch. With 2 overs left and with a score of 201-5 Hythe looked
home and dry. No you guessed right the old Pilgrim spirit shone though and
in those final 2 overs we took 4 wickets for just 8 runs and managed
to draw the game. But what a draw it was !. Oh and I forgot to mention a
certain persons drop catch, well it happens to us all Matty !!!!!!!!
Finally congratulations
to Lawrence who took part in the London Marathon and raised a nice sum of
cash for his chosen charity.
All the club would like
to wish Alan Damen a full and speedy recovery.
