Another sunny Sunday brought us
closer to home with a game against Highcliffe at Wingfeilds. Rendy lost
the toss and they elected to bat. After allot of discussion Garry Ings
sporting said that he would keep wicket ( or was it that he was the only
one with keepers gloves) as stand in keeper Matty was still on his way.
Jamie and Barry Ings opened the bowling and with the last ball of his
3rd over Jamie clearly had their opening bat caught behind but this was
not given, but got his revenge in the next over by clean bowling him of
an inside edge. Meanwhile at the other end Barry was plugging away and
got his due rewards in his 4th over with the first of his 4 wickets.
After 10 overs the score was racing along and I think they had just got
into double figures for the loss of 2 wickets. Barry then proceeded to
take a wicket in each of his 6th,7th and 8th over with Highcliffe now on
56-5. Rendy generously offered Barry an extra over to see if he could
get a 5 for but Barry could only bowl a maiden so off he came with
figures of 9-4-11-4. After this Ings piece of magic, son Garry decided
to get in on the act as he took 3 smart catches behind the stumps, a
stumping which was not given and a blow to the chest from a vicious
lifter bowled by Sean Damen which knocked him clean over and all that
dad Barry could say was " did he catch of the ball". Another
fine spell of bowling by Sean Damen 6-2-16-3 saw off Highcliffe
and a wicket with his first bowling spell from Steve Edwards saw
Highcliffe back in the pavilion for 123. After a superb tea of
Cheese, Corned beef, Gherkins, Ham, Chili and pepper sandwiches Pilgrims
went out to bat. After just 5overs we had raced along to 43 or should I
say Nick did, Matty still had not opened his account. Nick then missed a
straight ball and was out for 33. This brought Steve Damen to the crease
and after paying so much attention from the bowlers run up missed his
first ball and was bowled. Another newcomer Mike Mabbatt raced along to
15 before also missing a straight ball. Matty quickly followed for 4 and
this brought to the crease Jamie (22 no) and Garry Ings ( 30 no) who calmly
brought us home with a 6 wicket win. You could say that it was an
Ingscellent day for Father and Son. Next week there is no game
as Bank holiday Monday we start our tour of Sussex with a game against
arch rivals Ebernoe.
