| On yet another
hot day Wessex Pilgrims took to the field against Godshill, and soon
reaped the reward of a wicket in the second over, with Lawrence taking a
good catch at point off Paul Rendell's bowling. But soon the result of
playing twice over the last two days began in the searing heat and
only having 10 fielders soon began to take effect and Godshill raced
along to the 90's. I think we all thought that at this rate we
would be looking at a score of 250 to chase. But Sean Damen and Nick
Birt had other ideas as they between them they bowled 20 overs for just
60 runs and 8 wickets Sean with 2-24 and Nick 6-36 just missing out on
his first hatrick. Godshill ended up with a score of 175-9. A very
subdued Mattie Hollier and Jamie Gawler opened the batting for the
Pilgrims as we lost our first wicket (Mattie) with only 7 on the board.
A partnership of 61 followed between Jamie and Lawrence before Jamie
(32) was bowled out. In came Graham Corbin and departed soon after
without troubling the scores, apparently something to do with the bat he
borrowed !. Nick was next in but a few overs later Lawrence(41) got out
after trying to smash the cover off the ball with the score on 82. Nick
and Paul pushed the score along until Paul got bowled by a full toss and
two overs later Nick(18) was given out l.b.w. The score was 135-5 still
31 runs short of a win. Scores of 4 by Steve Edwards, 1 by Al Damen 12 n
o by Sean Damen and 9 no. by Malcolm Read Pilgrims just missed out on
the run chase and at the close we were 164-8, just 11 runs short.
